"MINDING THE GAP BETWEEN EXPECTATIONS AND THE PRACTICE FIELD: QUALITY IMPROVEMENT IN TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR VOLUNTEERS"
Anicken Sveia RIKSFJORD and Hilde LILLESTØL
To secure that the training program for volunteers is compatible with what they really have to master from callers, we have focused on quality improvement work. On basis of the findings from Ingvild Vattø’s Phd and a qualitative study of Kirkens SOS, we became aware of a gap between our training program for volunteers and the practice field. We want to present data from our findings, our quality improvement work and how we have implemented a new training program for our volunteers. Kirkens SOS is the largest suicide prevention crisis line in Norway, receiving approximately 200 000 calls annually. Kirkens SOS also seeks to alleviate human misery, despair, loneliness and depression by being available for those who have nowhere else to turn.
