THE “PAPAGENO-EFFECT”
Golli MARBOE

Suicidality is still a topic that people don't like to talk about in large parts of our society. There is a fear of hurting both those affected and those left behind. Studies by the Medical University of Vienna show, however, that attentive and appropriate communication about suicidality even has a preventive effect - not least when it comes to dealing with survivors and their grief. Golli Marboe, himself a bereaved person, talks about this so-called "Papageno effect" from the point of view of a journalist, as well as a member of SUPRA (the coordination office for suicide prevention of the Federal Ministry of Health in Austria).
